SCHEDULE UPDATE – We will not be sailing tonight, Friday Aug 23rd due to an extremely low tide. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Friday, August 23rd

Location: Northern Raritan Bay
Tide: High 10:09am
Water Temp: 72.7 degrees
Wind: NW 9kts
Moon Phase: 92% Waning

Conditions
We will have incoming water for the first half of the trip. The wind is out of the northwest around 9 knots. The conditions are going to be difficult today with the wind holding us against the current which will be running hard on the bottom, carrying the lines to the north.

Pregame Show
Yesterday’s fishing was brutal to say the least. It was just one of those days where the fluke just did not want to bite. There were a few fish caught, but no where near enough to even say it was ok. The good news is yesterday is over! We are another day off the moon, and the strength to the current should start to ease. There are fish in Ambrose, very nice sized fish as well. We are going to jump right into the channel and see if the conditions will be manageable. They may not be right away, but we will find out soon. If we can’t live there right off the bat, we will have another shot in a couple of hours when the current eases off on the tide change. There is a down side to the too. Once the outgoing water begins to run it will become too fast to drift because the wind will be with the tide. So, basically we may only have one shot in the channel on the tide change. Let’s fish!

First Drift
Wow! A few POW POW’s and more than a few monster tangles. There were 3 fish caught over 5 pounds along with a half dozen other keepers, but unfortunately the poor conditions took over and as a result the tangles became too frequent.

Second Drift
We came out of the channel and made this in shallow water along side of Ambrose. The good, no tangles. The bad, only a couple of keepers and a few shorts. . . We are going to change it up and head over to the channel to our south which is Sandy Hook Channel. Ambrose is going to be a nightmare with the conditions that we are presented with.

Third Drift
The fishing is not very good right now. We are catching some fish, but not enough. We are also not moving. We are going to set up to catch the first of the outgoing water.

Fourth Drift
There were a few nice fish caught on this one. It is still not great, but the good thing is we are beginning to move. High hook is Tom “The Champ” with 3 keepers over 4 pounds.

Fifth Drift
If it’s not one thing it’s another!  Now we have the outgoing water, but it has become way to fast to stay in the channel. Mother Nature is beating us up today.
