Monday, August 19th

Location: Ambrose Channel
Tide: Low 12:53m
Water Temp: degrees
Wind: W 12kts
Moon Phase: 97% Full

Conditions
Not good. The current is roaring and the wind is not going to help, coming out of the west around 12 knots. In addition, there is a pretty good roll from the east wind yesterday.

Pregame Show
We are coming off a bad weekend of fishing. The first drift on Saturday was the highlight, then it went downhill fast. Today is a new day. The conditions will not be good with a strong current from the full moon and a stiff west wind pushing us along at a Nascar like speed. There is also a roll in the ocean and bay from yesterdays east wind. Mother Nature has our backs against the wall right off the bat, but that won’t stop us from giving a wholehearted effort. We are armed with some very good fluke fisherman who all use different techniques to catch their prey. It will be interesting to see what the day brings.

August Flukemaster Classic Update
George Cullen dramatically took over the top spot in the August Flukemaster Pool on Monday with a 6lb 14oz fish. The pot is up to $800.00.

First Drift
On our way to the northern part of the bay, we read a ton of bait life on the bottom of the Reach Channel. Unfortunately not a bite. We will carry on to where we have been fishing. . . We can already feel the roll in the back of the bay. Not a good sign.

Second Drift
Fast and furious with tangles! We did catch a few, but it became evident rather quickly that the drifting conditions were going to be too fast and we would have to abandon Ambrose for the day.

During our move we were passed by one replica galleon and a replica pirate ship that looks as if it has been converted into a restaurant. The mast has been removed from the dinner boat so that it can fit through the locks it must travel through in order to get to its destination in Erie, Pa.

Third Drift
We headed to our east a ways to an area of holes. We did find some fish in them and along the edges. It is not great, but considering the conditions we are presented with, it’s something.

Fourth Drift
Moved about a mile to our south and had the best fishing of the day. While I still wouldn’t categorize it as being good, at least it’s something. There are three anglers tied for high hook with 3 keepers.

Fifth Drift
Highlight of the drift was a giant sea turtle getting caught on one of the lines. Other than that, wombi!

Sixth Drift
We caught the two biggest fish of the day, both weighing close to 5 pounds. Other than that, more wombi.

Postgame Show
Another day of sub par fluking. The conditions were against us right from the start, making it just too fast to fish in Ambrose. There were a few people who had success today, four people tied for high  hook with 3 fish, but overall it was a struggle to put keepers in the boat. It looks like we have a nice stretch of weather coming this week. Hopefully the fluking will be just as good.
