Captain's Focus

The boys followed up their 60 tuna trip last week with another 27 (21 yellowfin and 5 bluefin) this Sunday to Monday! Oh yeah - they threw another 200-pound Mako on the dock too.

Capt. Dean Lambros with Greg Ryback were running the 48 Canyon Runner with the Peter Bradley charter and left early Saturday morning and headed towards the Spencer/Wilmington area and got the lines in at 8am. They quickly nailed a 40 pound bluefin then nothing for hours on end. The afternoon saw some better action finally unwind with multiple bites and 16 yellowfin hitting the deck before the night set in. The Canyon Runner Green Machine bars and mini-mamba bars were hot with the Canyon Runner Squid dredge once again having the tuna school around the dredge. They had one 65 pound yellowfin, one 40 pounder and the rest were 20-30 pounds.

After the night set in they ran 40 miles inshore and set up for sharks. It didn't take long and an 81" 200 pound mako was decked and they headed for the barn getting in before 6am.

Capt Mark DeBlasio and Capt. Craig Angelini took the 60 Ritchie Howell with the Stephan Kiratsous charter and started in the same area at the same time but missed the first bite. Again a slow morning turned into a great bite when all the life in the world convereged and they had multiple bites with 6 40-pound bluefin caught with 5 released and another 5 yellowfin with a few in the 40 pound class kept. The bigger yellowfin ate Canyon Runner Mamba bars and the rest came on Mini-Mamba Canyon Runner bar and our new 12" Squid Bars were getting attached much of the trip. Mark was also trolling a couple of our Canyon Runner Squid Dredges - and the boys won't leave home without them anymore!

After the night set in they ran 40 miles inshore and quickly had a big mako on - unfortunately this one came undone so they spent the rest of the night catching and releasing 9 blue sharks and a dusky.

Almost 90 tuna in our first two canyon trips - not a bad start.
