Captain's Focus

After sitting at the dock Thursday and Friday we got a peak at the water temp charts Saturday morning and decided to head to the southern canyons with the Spike Ishikawa charter and did it pay off big time. As soon as we arrived in 78 degree water we had 2 whites up in the spread that did not come tight. We then did come tight with some huge yellowfin. Trolling bars and ballyhoo next to them we had big yellowfin exploding on the baits all afternoon. When the dust settled on the big fish Capt. Mark DeBlasio, Deane Lambros and Kobey Treadwell went 6 for 10 on 90 to 100 pound yellowfin. They then made a move up the bank and started picking 35 – 45 pound yellowfin. They finishing the afternoon troll with 16 yellowfin to their credit. The night bite was more interesting though.

Setting up for sharks and swords at 2 in the morning they had both rods go off at the same time only to see 40 pound yellowfin come to the boat. They fired down jigs and starting a mad dog bite on the jigs that lasted until 4am when another 14 yellowfin were accounted for and they couldn't reel anymore coming home at first light. They came how with 13 and released 17 of these fish.

This is canyon fishing at its best and it’s time to go now. We have a few open boat spots on both boats and June 28-29 or 29-30 available on the 60’ Ritchie. Please email me at adam@canyonrunner.com or call me at 732-272-4445 if you want to get in on this fishing before it’s over.
