Captain's Focus

With Capt. Mark at our last Seminar at the Mohegan Sun Capt. Ritchie Howell himself, the legend, took our 60’ Ritchie Howell out on Saturday on an open boat trip and put a hurting on the Bluefin. Fishing a little further to the south they got into a red hot bite with acres and acres of Bluefin cruising by the boat and hook-ups coming fast and furiously.

From approximately 11am until they came home they had fish on jigs and popping equipment with a total of 40 bites and 30 solid hook-ups. Some of the best video of year was taken as our second Capt. (aka. Hook) was popping bluefins off the bow of our boat with one of the charters who is a NJ charter boat captain (Mike Copeman – “Renegade”). I don’t have the video in hand but basically it has Bluefin – 3 at a time – exploding on the lures.

They kept a 61” fish and released a total of 14 from 125 to 200 pounds.

The best thing about the trip is not only were the Bluefin further SOUTH than they had been – they were moving south all day – proving that this fishery is far from over.

Unfortunately for us it almost is – we are only fishing until the end of this week as we have the boat scheduled to be haul April 19. We only have one day left available and that is this Tuesday, April 13 and the weather looks absolutely great so if interested please call now at 732-272-4445 or email me at adam@canyonrunner.com

Oh yeah – the giants are still there too as a local boat caught a 99” 600+ pound fish yesterday.
