Captain's Focus

Just a quick heads up to anyone still on the fence about starting their 2009 tuna season - Capt. Phil Dulanie is back offshore after being on the Injured Reserve most of last year with no less then 5 bouts with pneumonia and seemingly has not lost his touch just yet. He is running a Sunday/Monday overnighter and with some usual intel from our 60 Canyon Runner basically stopped right on the yellowfin and bluefin bringing 19 to the boat in the first 2 hours and fishing up the afternoon troll with close to 40 tuna (30 yellowfin and 10 bluefin). They also called me just before mid-night noting that our first mako of the year was in the boat!

With 40 tuna in only half a trip obviously everything they put in the water got bites but the bigger fish (40-50 bluefin) ate the purple/black Canyon Runner Squid Spreader Bars.

They will be up on the troll this morning and then home early as we have a turn around scheduled for Monday/Tuesday. The 60 Canyon Runner will also be out today on another overnighter so hopefully the solid reports continue.

Guys - this is the final report. They did not get a bite on the morning troll. They did pick through a bunch of blue sharks at night and may have had another mako in the slick but did not get a bite. The agreed upon count on tuna was 25 yellowfin and 10 bluefins so a total of 35 tuna to their credit - not the 40+ first reported in the heat of battle.

By the way - this was an open boat trip and we have our next one scheduled for June 29-30. We have open spot left open on this trip. The cost is $785 and that includes everything including the TIP. Please call or email if interested.
