Captain's Focus

Capt. Mark DeBlasio took the Lane Laneroff charter down to the Toms Canyon Saturday to Sunday despite a nice catch yesterday east of the 100-square. We did not like still seeing all those smaller fish so we all decided to move to the South Toms/Carteret area for bigger fish as per reports we heard from friends. They started fishing around 2pm and by night fall they were 9 for 11 on yellowfin up to 70 pounds just inshore of the South Toms Canyon and kept 7. They drifting off in the deep at night and ended up without a bite. Up on the troll in the morning they were expecting a banner day but by 9am no one in the fleet had a bite. The fish started a slow pick shortly thereafter and they ended up picking a couple more nicer size yellowfin up to 70 pounds and finished up with 10 total with 8 in the boat.. The fish ate squid spreader bars troll much further back then usual as they were up on top most of the day but hard to get in front of as the fish were always on the move.
