Captain's Focus

Capt. Phil Dulanie and Capt. Mark DeCabia headed back down to the southern canyons and had a nice afternoon on the edge with the Rob Durso charter. They started picking a few of their first fish around 4pm and by 9pm put the last of 39 yellowfin in the boat. Every single fish was over 30 pounds. But even more interesting well over 20 of the yellowfin were over 45 pounds up to the last fish of the day which is just under 90 pounds.

Obviously they are eating everything but since they are feeding on 6-8 inch squid our Canyon Runner Rainbow Squid Bars and Mini-Green Machine Bars are knocking the heck out of them. All the fish are right on the 100 fathom line up on the bank. In the morning they picked away at a bunch more and they ended up with 47 yellowfin. All the fish in morning were again nice fish in the 40-50 pound class.

Just to be clear we of course did not keep most of these yellowfin as over 30 were released. We actually kept less than our limit as the charter had enough meat to eat. When we release the bigger yellowfin we pull them through the door (just like the tag-a-giant folks) push out the hook and slid them back out the door head first.
