Brad Burgess of the Canyon Runner joined Frank Hertsch aboard his 47 Viking, Sea Hunt for a day of tuna trolling. After checking Offshore Satellite Services chart Friday night and based on reports from Adam, Mark DeBlasio, and Stu, we decided to head to the 60 fathom line inside the South Poorman’s and then work offshore to the 500 line. Left OCMD around 5:15am with lines in by 7:30am. Started at 26800/42000 in 60 Fathoms and the 11 rod spread consisted of 9 inch Rainbow Canyon Runner Squid Bars, Ballyhoo, and Canyon Runner jets.

10 minutes after lines in, a nice bluefin crushed the 9 inch Squid bar in the tip rigger and the Penn International 50W was screaming! After a nice fight we decided to boat the 44 incher. We worked the area and had several shots at bluefins up to 46 inches. The water temp. was 66 degrees and a green/blue mix. 4 of the 5 bites were on 9 inch Canyon Runner Squid Bars and the other on a skirted ballyhoo on the short rigger.

Around 10:30am we decided to work offshore for some yellowfin. Worked one more school of bluefins feeding near 000/000, then headed east. Water temp kept creeping up and color changed to a nice blue. Found the 68.8 degree water right on the 500 line outside the South Poorman’s. Worked several pods of bait near 26715/4200 and managed 4 single bites on our WWB ballyhoo and Blue/White Islander combo. We continued to pound the area, however couldn’t entice a YFT cover up!
