Captain's Focus

I hope everyone had a great holiday and an even better Happy New Years. We finished up our season New Years Eve and hauled the boat for a few months for the winter, and to get some maintenance done. This year was a great season and I would like to thank everyone for their continued support. The spring saw some great bass fishing. This year was a little different than others with less of an ocean bite, but a constant bite of some large stripers in our bay and local waters. We saw a lot of big fish this season with more than 20 fish weighing over 40 lbs coming into the boat. We would like to congratulate Steve Masiello in boating the largest bass of the season and even the largest bass landed on the boat yet which tipped the scale down to 53 lbs. It was definitely a fish of a lifetime. Fluke fishing was up and down this season. We caught a lot of fish somedays but the majority was shorts. We did have some very good fluke trips though with numerous 8 lb fish coming up and one pushing around 10 lbs. I truly believe that the fluke bite was off this year due to the dirty water quality that we had this summer. For some reason the water was very cloudy until you go offshore around 30 miles. As far as offshore fishing, what a season. Shark fishing was fairly consistent with brows, blue sharks, makos and even a hammerhead. Tuna fishing this year was absolutely off the charts. We had a great tuna season with both bluefins and yellowfins. The fishing was close to home and we came back with some great catches. I know we introduced some people to the offshore fishing and they are hooked, and we can not wait to get back offshore next season. Fall bass fishing was again some of the best we have seen with some nice quality fish to 40 lbs being decked and plenty of action with keepers and shorts. Black fishing was great again this year, with a bunch of nice fish over 10 lbs coming into the boat and the largest ever caught on the boat weighing in at 14.8 lbs.

The water temps right now are very warm hovering around 50 degrees, which is a great sign for the spring fishery. I know that the boats locally are still clobbering the blackfish, and some of our charter friends from Barnegat south to Cape May are still beating on the bass with fish to 25 lbs. I expect it to be an early start this coming spring and we are hoping to have the boat back in the water sometime beginning to middle of March targeting winter flounder and Striped Bass. I know three years ago we had a warmer than normal winter and on March 10 we were catching limits of stripers in the back bay. Hopefully it happens again.

We are currently taking reservations for the 2016 season for the spring flounder and bass fishing, summer fluke, tuna and shark fishing and even fall bass and blackfish trips.

If anyone has any specific dates in mind for charters, please feel free to give me a call at 732-861-3394 to lock in your date or dates. I expect to have another extremely busy season and already can't wait to get back out there.

Hope everyone enjoys your winter, and behalf of Jared and myself we would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy New Years.
