Captain's Focus

Open boat trip today. Ran south in search of birds and life that we saw from the beach yesterday and saw a couple of boats just crushing the bass. Got a call just after 8 from capt. joey and we were off to the races much further south.. When we arrived on the scene there were 5 small CC's working the area, and gannets and gulls were pretty much everywhere divebombing and picking at bunker and herring. Bass were also EVERYWHERE. As soon as a jig hit the water, we were on - PB&J, shad, and krocs all worked. Boris fished a yellow Stingo PB&J all day and landed easily 15 by himself, and Brian Buddha sticks had HH with 16.

It was simply unreal - probably the best jig bite I've seen in some time. All fish were NICE, 30-38" biggest went around 20# and was fat - we had a few of those. We had our boat limit +1 bonus fish in 2 drifts and then we played catch and release for 2 hours after. We easily boated 75 bass if not more, again all quality fish.

By 11 it started breaking up a bit, so we tried toggin' on a small wreck I have down that way that's in sorta close (wind was HONKING outta the W at this point) and we couldn't fish anywhere outside of a mile, so we made the best of what we had. We had to make a few wiggles, and had a couple of good shots of tog, but most were shorts but we plucked a few fat females off the wreck, as well as a nice 4# taken by Mike. All tog were on the snot - just 1 short on green crab.

Called it a day at 2 because we were simply exhausted. Great day, VERY MEMORABLE day. Doesn't get much better than what we had today!
