Saturday 10/6:  Had Chris L's charter on board consisting of Chris, Gavin, and Darrel.  Darrel is Chris' brother and is originally from the Philly area, but in 1989 relocated to Australia.  Darrel cut his teeth fishing Jersey and Delaware waters in the 70's and 80's catching our big bluefish when our stripers were scarce, and missed the hard fighting demons that so many of us take for granted. 

So at 645, we ran out east to where we've been catching them since early August, and they were still there, on the same numbers, ready to chew. Today it was albies first, as we had a few right away, then bluefish, then albies.  At times we had them darting through the slick but w/ the choppy conditions 4-6' outta the S it was hard to see what was going on down there.  Nevertheless, the guys caught loads of albies and even more bluefish. 

We made one drop all day, and caught fish on sardine and butterfish chunks, whole dines and butters, as well as jigs and spearing.  At the end of the day we boated ~60 bluefish in the 7-12# range, and ~30 albies to about 8# (our best # day ever with albies).  All the fish we boated, with the exception of 2 bluefish were released - it was a great trip but a sporty ride home in the nasty ocean but the guys had a great time!!!

Sunday 10/7: On Sunday we Had an open boat bottom trip today with Ryan, Fin, Bill H, Frasco and Paul. Ran up north and fished in 40-50' depths to start.

First drop was NG with only one massive 5' silver eel coming into the boat as well as a couple of porgies and seabass. Made a move about a mile north, found some insane readings over some rocks and dropped the hook. For the next 2.5 hours we had lock n' load action with mixed size porgies, a few seabass, a handful of bergalls, and 1 florida pinfish and 1 7" spot. Porgy fishing was insane at times, we had 8 rods hooked up and we had many many double headers. We mostly kept fish over 12" and our biggest was 15". By 10:30 it was time for a change of pace, so we ran down the beach to try for tog, seabass, triggers and more pork chops.

Our next drop down the beach in 30' produced even more porgies, some bigger than earlier, and a few nice knucklehead seabass. Conditions were wacky though as we had a gusty NW wind developing and S current up against it so we were flopping. We then made 3 more drops in on the beach and had a few more nice seabass and a couple more porgies - no tog or triggers though.

At 1:45 I got a call that there was some weakfish action down by our inlet, so we shot down there, and finished up the day on INSANE readings catching double and triple header weakfish. Loads of shorts, but also plenty of keepers and we had our full boat limit (1 each! LOL) in about 10 minutes and released the rest unharmed. Biggest was maybe 17".

Called it a day at 2:30. Wound up with ~250 porgies, our full boat limit of weakfish, the 1 giant silver eel, and a full 5 gallon bucketful of quality seabass. Terrific day with a great crew - and the WEATHER, which kept many away today, was great - ocean was flat all day and we only had some rain for about an hour and temps were nice and chilly - felt like fall!!!
