Captain's Focus

The Ocean Explorer from Belmar has been able to get offshore for steadily improving blackfishing. There were a few limits the last two days, and most anglers caught some. Today's largest tog was in the 10-pound class, and there were three others from 5 to 7 pounds. The weather forecast for Wednesday includes strong south winds and rain, but Thursday may be fishable again. Capt. Ryan Bogan reported a big swell slowed weekend bottom fishing on the Jamaica II from Brielle. That didn't bother the congers and dogfish, but a few cod and ling were also boated. Cod won the pools for Hector Colon of Perth Amboy at 14 pounds and Steven Crane from Hazlet with a 12-pounder. That boat will sail at 3 a.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday. Adam La Rosa said last Saturday's Canyon Runner Seminar in Atlantic City was a big success. There are only 100 tickets left for the Long Island event on Feb. 27. Call 732 842-6825 for reservations.
