Posted on August 12, 2021 Jamaica has a good tilefish trip CThis week s Southern Canyons Tilefish trip of the Jamaica from Brielle was successful after a slow start. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported another fine morning of jigging blefish before switching to sea bass for the two per day presently allowed.
The action was pretty good today but the nice big seabass we were catching along with the Fluke shrunk. we did have John with his Fluke limit and Greg with a 7 lber and some other nice keepers .
The Golden Eagle had good action with yellowfin tuna during Monday s Exotics mid-range trip, though they were running large and many were lost. The Sea Hunter from Atlantic Highlands had decent fluking today, though sea bass weren t hitting well.
Posted on August 10, 2021 Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational starts tomorrow The offshore tournament season continues as the Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational begins Wednesday with registration and the captains meeting at the Beach Haven Marlin Tuna Club before boats fish two out of the next three days. That s reflected in the species count for the contest which came to 502 released white marlin plus 13 weighed 66 blue marlin releases and 3 weighed 8 spearfish, 3 sailfish 22 tuna,9 dolphin, 4 wahoo, 2 boated sharks and a swordfish.
We were off to a good start today with seabass and fluke but we had to cut the day short and bring someone in for a possible heart attack. Tomorrow is another day.
They wanted a mixed bag, so we started off at the bluefin grounds to jig no life so pushed off further, started chunking for the XL yellows that have been a round had action right off the bat landing fish and breaking a fish well over 100lbs right at the boat. Changed gears and ran to the canyon for tiles and mahi landing over a couple dozen to fill up the box.
We ended up with some short action and some keepers in the bay but for the hand we were dealt we did ok. Today ocean bound, the drift was a little quick but we put the heavy sinkers on and ended up with a bunch of big Seabass and some nice keeper Fluke, Dan the man had his Fluke limit.
