Black Sea Bass "Trivia"

Black sea bass grow slowly and can live up to 20 yrs. They  are able to reproduce when they reach
1 to 3 years old. Black sea bass are "protogynous  hermaphrodities"- most black sea bass start out
as females and a percentage of them will become males. One theory is that when a large male is caught, he leaves behind a harem  of smaller  females. The loss of the resident male, triggers one of the females to morph into a male for spawning purposes..
