Saturday's Raritan Bay Anglers Club Tournament results were received today, and Gary Read of South Amboy was the winner with the same doormat that won at the Sandy Hook Bay Anglers Tournament. That fluke weighed 11.19 pounds at Perth Amboy. Tuankhanh Nguyen of Jersey City also had a doormat that weighed 10.17 pounds and took second. Thomas Murphy of Bayonne was third at 9.83 pounds, and fourth went to Robert Krimin of South Amboy at 9.30 pounds. The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported jigging and baiting small blues plus mackerel was slower than on the weekend, but there were still plenty for all. The afternoon fun trip produced six keeper fluke and 50 shorts in the first hour. Prowler V from Atlantic Highlands had a good Sunday evening wreck trip for ling along with a few cod and porgies. Capt. Dave De Gennaro was pleased to see the first signs of weakfish as he chummed with grass shrimp on the east side of Barnegat Bay from his Hi-Flier out of Barnegat. A 17-incher and two either side of 13 inches were caught along with short fluke and small sharks. Allen Riley of South Plainfield said he had ideal surf conditions this morning at Monmouth Beach, but fishing remained pretty dead. His brother, Ed of Edison, managed a sea robin and a short fluke. Vinnie D'Anton of Shark River Hills had a hot hand this morning while casting from shore into Shark River. He not only released four blues in the 4-pound class on his Chug Bug, but added a 30-inch striper. I had raised the first fish on my small popper, but never did a thing after that. Jim's Tackle in Cape May reports "Fluke fishing out of Cape May is about the same -- a lot of throwbacks and a few keepers. This seems to be true on most of the reefs and the Old Grounds. The only exception is Delaware Reef Site #10. There aren't as many fish there, but the fish that are there are decent sized. There are a few nice fluke still coming from the backwaters, but it's a pick -- nothing fantastic. On a brighter note the tuna bite is still going strong at Massey's Canyon. Most of the fish are being caught chunking and jigging. There are both bluefin and yellowfin being caught. Some guys are going as low as 30lb. leader when chunking, but when jigging this doesn't seem necessary. On the inshore troll the small blues have shown up on the Five Fathom Bank just outside the Cape May Reef. False albacore, a few Spanish mackerel and a few dolphin have been caught around the East Lump. Offshore is still a little slow as a few bigeyes have been caught early morning in the Wilmington, but nothing steady. The marlin fishing hasn't really kicked into high gear yet either. There are a few being caught, but we're not getting too many really good reports. The Rips off Cape May Point are holding good numbers of kingfish and that seems to be the best bet for the surf as well. These fish are taking bloodworms and Fishbites. There are fluke at Cape May Point and Higbee's Beach. Most are short. but there are a few keepers. On the bay side, the fish only have to be 17 inches to keep and you're allowed 4."
