Most North Jersey anglers would prefer a later opening so we could stay open to the last date of Sept. 30. Connecticut got approval last year for a16-inch minimum for shore anglers in specific areas, and the ASMFC will allow other states to do the same in regulated areas.
As per Friday's column, the Expo is located in the Garden State Exhibit Center, Somerset, which is located off Exit 10 of I-287. The many other seminars available on Saturday are listed in Friday's column.
Roffer's Fishing Service has noted that a substantial meander of the Gulf Stream has moved northeast just east of Norfolk Canyon and to the vicinity of Lindenkohl Canyon with 61-to-63-degree blue waters. I also received a similar report from Joe Greco, formerly of Edison, about that Gulf offshore fishing for red grouper from overnighting charter boats out of Fort Myers, where he now lives.
The Jamaica from Brielle cancelled Saturday's trip, but got in the Sunday sailing to mid-range wrecks which produced 12 to 15 cod up to 30 pounds plus seven to eight pollock, according to Tony Bogan. The northwest wind knocked down the swell on Sunday, when there was a pick of cod and the ling.

I'll be providing a seminar on Raritan Bay striped bass fishing at 11 30 a. m. that Saturday, during which Tady Lure Co. from California will give the first 100 attendees one of their jigs which owner Gary Quon proved to be effective on stripers between the channels when he fished with me and Capt. Hans Kaspersetz in November. Capt. Butch Egerter is at the Dauntless dock in Point Pleasant Beach every day, but has only been getting out on weekends for a pick of ling and an occasional cod in very cold waters.

J. congressional delegation sent to NOAA and the National Fish and Wildlife Service asking those agencies to explain their votes earlier this month in favor of new regionalization measures for the 2014 fluke fishing season.
