The World Fishing & Outdoor Expo continues through Sunday at Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York. Saturday hours are from 9:30 a.m to 7 p.m. That's Saltwater Saturday featuring Captains Brian Bacon, Pete Myers, Brian Rice and Matthew DeBacco plus Shimano's Roy Leyva. Famed N.J. bass pro Mike Iaconelli is among the freshwater experts presenting seminars. Visit www.sportshows.com/suffern for schedules.  Adult admission is $13, but only $3 for kids 5 to 11. The Atlantic City Boat Show also runs through Sunday at the Convention Center. Be sure to take in the Canyon Runner seminar at noon, 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday plus noon and 3 Sunday. Strong NW winds put a big dent in boat fishing, but Bob Matthews reports from Fisherman's Den that some anglers have been able to catch their two-winter flounder limit by casting clam and worm baits from the Belmar Marina docks. Fishing is best from the top of the outgoing tide down, when the water is warmest -- and especially on sunny days. There was plenty of sun Wednesday when I joined ex-Edison resident Joe Greco on his 20-foot flat-bottomed boat out of Gulf Trade Marina in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. David Smedile, formerly from Cape May, was with us as we managed three large sheepshead up 3 pounds from among lots of small mangrove snappers that were feasting on our live shrimp. A couple of undersized gag groupers were released in shallow waters, and I got a pleasant surprise when a delicious pompano hit at the Sanibel bridge. Last year's hot March sheepshead bite hasn't turned on as yet.
