It wasn't red hot, but with much better weather the Shore party boat fleet got into shots of jigging action today with mixed size blues. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++The The Golden Eagle from Belmar reported mostly 2-to-4-poundrs with some of 6-8 pounds mixed in. The Queen Mary from Point Pleasant had blues up to 8 pounds that hit best on plain A-17 and A-28 diamonds. The Ocean Explorer from Belmar had perfect conditions for drifting sea bass, and lots of them were caught -- including on jigs as they were feeding on sand eels. Though a few big stripers were trolled in weekend tournaments, those bass were few and far between, Capt. Russ Binns said he had what may have been his worst ever inshore trip as he trolled  Mar-Lin out of Toms River from Island Beach to Shrewsbury Rocks from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. without ever getting a hit -- and never saw anyone else catch a fish. Mark Roy of Warren had some good news today as he found bunker back in Raritan Bay in quantity. He had some kids aboard his Release Me from Raritan Marina in Hazlet, but couldn't catch a bluefish to entertain them. He was all over the bay with plenty of marks, but only had one hit on a live bait and another while trolling. The latest report from Matt Slobodjian at Jim's Tackle in Cape May is as follows: "Black drum fishing has been good, especially in the deeper water all along the edges of Tussy's Slough. There are still a few drum coming from the Bayshore Channel, but by far the best bite is in the deeper water. Sea bass fishing has been very good on the wrecks and reefs in the 120 ft. depth range. The charter boats are reporting limits of fish just about every day they can go. There are plenty of fish on the inshore reefs, but a lot of smaller fish to weed through. We are still seeing some nice stripers coming from the beaches in town. Thursday, Joe Paparo of Williamstown NJ brought a 48.8lb bass to the scale. He caught it on clam from Poverty Beach. We held our Shark Tournament Friday and Saturday. The water temperature was a little too cold for ideal conditions, still a few makos were caught -- but no qualifiers. The 1st place fish was caught by the crew of the "Ni Cara" a 240 lb. thresher. Second place was caught by the crew of the "Whiskey Girl", a 184 lb. thresher. There were a ton of blue sharks caught and released, with some boats reporting as many as 25 blues. As the water temperature rises more makos should start showing up. We want to thank everybody who participated and we hope to see you next year. We did get a few reports of bluefin tuna on the troll. There were fish in the 40-55 inch range in the Baltimore. A little closer to home, some smaller fish were trolled up at the 28-Mile wreck."
