Worked hard looking for fish but finally prevailed and were able to bang 4 nice keeper Fluke on the Ocean. The best bite seems to be in about 65 ft of water (5 miles off the beach).
The combination of the SE Swell from Colin, Persistent Southerlies, and the residual upwelled waters, have really put the kabosh over the weekend on the catching. Some areas had temp swings as much as 18 degrees from the beginning to the end of the week.
Still, I am very encouraged about the prospects of a great August of Fluke fishing in the Ocean. A full day trip split between wreck fishing in the morning and fluke fishing for the second part of the day is really a great day on the water and a chance to bring home some good eats as well.
On the Bay side of things, the Fluking is still holding up but changes are underway. On the other hand, the east side of the Bay should continue to produce nice Fluke catches for at least a couple more weeks.
Mark my words, tomorrow is going to be a big catching day on the Ocean. It seems to me that most of the fish are along the beach, so I don't think you need to venture far to put together a nice catch.
We fished the entire incoming tide and picked about 75 fish with 4 being of keeper size. No secrets here, just wait for the incoming water as the cooling from the Ocean puts the Fluke on the feed.
For Monday's charter we headed off to the same wreck as we did so well on the day before. This time was not quite as good and the fish were smaller and not as plentiful as the previous day.
