Capt. Rob Semkewyc had a good crowd and and they all limited on keeper bass even though the slot fish were hard to come by among all the 10-to-16-pounders. Unfortunately, the Sea Hunter will not sail Wednesday due to a forecast of strong northwest winds.
The Gambler from Point Pleasant didn't get out today for stripers, but will be shaping up until Friday and Saturday when they'll be on offshore sea bass wreck trips. They have room on those sea bass trips.

Though N. Y. waters are closed for stripers, blackfish boats spotted birds working today off the Highlands Bridge and at Shrewsbury Rocks. The Capt. Vinny Vetere ended up with a big catch of stripers on Friday before the N. Y. closure.

The Big Jamaica made the long run from Brielle to Block Island last Saturday evening to get into hot fishing for jumbo sea bass plus porgies and some cod on Sunday.
At Brielle the Big Jamaica had a successful Block Island trip for jumbo sea bass and will be running more on Saturday evenings to fish on Sunday. There will also be a Saturday offshore wreck trip for sea bass.
After all the west winds we've had, the surf was still rough today -- but small stripers continued to bite in the breaking waves. The northwest wind is predicted to howl on Wednesday, and should finally knock the swell down -- but temperatures will also be much lower.
Blackfishing is still good on wrecks in the 80-100 ft. range and sea bass are still biting well on the 20 Fathom line and out to the Rockpile just inside the Wilmington Canyon. Vinny D'Anton of Wall fished the Sea Girt surf on the high tide for a brief bite of small stripers, and saw another angler catch a 24-incher -- which is big at this stage of the game.
Grumpy's Tackle in Seaside Park reported Saturday produced the best volume surf fishing of the year at Island Beach State Park though the stripers were all small. I then added one of the small bass on the jig before leaving.
