Spro rigs had most of the keepers today but natural baits have been producing just as well, or better, other days. Dave Brink, Middletown, NJ, took the pool today with one of his keepers.
The guys all worked hard, as usual, and had good action in the bay with keepers and shorts. The water temperature in the bay has ranged between 62 and 69 degrees lately which is still much warmer than the ocean and why the best of the fluke fishing around continues to be in our bay.
We worked a couple of different areas and found okay action with some quality fish in the mix. Dominick Marcantonio, East Hanover, NJ, and Nelson Mendoza, Kinnelon, NJ, tied for the pool with identical 6 pound 10 ounce fish.
06 03 15 After a couple of days off due to the weather it was nice to come back to much improved fishing today. Guys had up to three nice keepers each and only a couple failed to take at least one home for dinner.
The guys fished hard and managed to once again put some nice fish in the coolers. Michael Satus, Old Bridge, NJ, took the pool with a nice 6 pound 5 ounce fish.
Mike Schmidt, Cranford, NJ, ended up with a pair of keepers to 6 pounds 2 ounces. Louis Riccardi, Nutley, NJ, got his first couple of keepers of the young season up to 4 pounds 10 ounces.
The guys worked hard and when we finally got some movement mid day they were able to put a few nice fish in the coolers. Most of our fish continue to be caught in the bay where the water has been warmer than the ocean which is normal for this time of year.
The guys worked hard and finished with some fish on ice for dinner. The majority of the fish we have been catching so far have been on natural baits rather than spro rigs but that will change soon.
The fellas had their best fishing this morning in a couple of areas with the outgoing tide. We checked a couple of different areas after the change but it seemed like the fish did not want the colder water brought in with the incoming tide.
