09 07 14 We started our day in the same area that has been giving us good fishing recently hoping to get in a couple of drifts before the current started to run hard. Bounced around a number of areas with slower current for the rest of the day.
Finished the day back where we started after the current slowed and had a few more keepers to add to the coolers on the final drift of the day. Brad Weaver, Bound Brook, NJ, topped his catch with a 5 pound 5 ounce fish.
Don Jaeger, Morris Plains, NJ, had three keepers to 5 pounds 5 ounces. John Porada, Pompton Lakes, NJ, had three keepers including the 8 pound 5 ounce pool winner!!
When the current finally got manageable we moved to one of the deep channels and had very good fishing for the rest of the day with lots of short action with plenty of keepers to go along with them. Current in the deep water was not a problem today and the guys were able to get away with some lighter tackle until the very end of the day.
The guys had good short action almost all day and had keepers to go around but keeper ratio was not what we saw yesterday. A few of the guys ended up with three keepers each etc. and they had to work hard for the fish that went into the coolers.
A number of the guys ended up with easy limits including Dominick Marcantonio, East Hanover, NJ, Rich Daniels, Phillipsburg, NJ and Jim Lohse, Union, NJ. Dominick, Mike Terefenko, Middletown, NJ, and Joe Nicholson, Garwood, NJ, all tied for the pool with identical fish.
Al Moretti, High Bridge, NJ, had three keepers including the 6 pound 1 ounce pool fish. Greg Barnett, Trenton, NJ, ended up with several keepers as well including his 5 pound 9 ounce fish.
Very little wind gave us good drifting conditions for much of the day. Young Lee, Palisades Park, NJ, took the pool with an 8 pound 9 ounce BEAUTY which beat out Ronnie Neira, Old Bridge, NJ, who had a very nice 7 pound 8 ounce fish of his own!
The heavier rods came in handy today and the guys who had them did well with lots of short action and a bunch of keepers to take home. Mike Scher, Cranford, NJ, had four nice keepers which included the 6 pound 5 ounce pool fish.
