Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report Fisherman's Wharf Fishing Report August 12, 2010 It's been quite a week of fishing here at the Wharf over these past seven days, the lazy hazy dog days of summer continue, the Croaker fishing has finally turned on all over the Delaware Bay and the Flounder continue to both please and frustrate anyone that is trying to catch them on a daily basis!We had a few very nice easy days fishing up in the Delaware Bay last week but that fishing fell apart on us, those fish either moved on or we ripped them all out of there.

Along with the heat wave I have to say that I had my best numbers of keeper Flounder for any week so far this year and in the midst of these fish we also had a couple long tough days with very few numbers of keepers in the column. I have continued to fish almost exclusively over the old grounds out in the Ocean this past week this is where the best action has been for me, however there are still reports way up in the Delaware Bay of some big numbers of Flounder showing up along the channel and around some of the deeper edges near the anchorage.

I mentioned last week that I had rarely fished any one particular area more than one or two days in a row its been similar this past week bouncing around to several different areas during the ever changing weather and tidal conditions. It truly is anyone's guess as to how this 2010 Fluke season will all shake out in the end but there are most definitely some fish around and I fully anticipate having some great days on these Flatties in the next several weeks.

I will continue drift fishing with my all day trips sailing seven days a week and our primary target will be the Flounder. Half day trips have been pretty slow so far this year but with the Croakers showing up and the Flounder biting a little better close to home their fishing will only improve as the Summer progresses.

After a solid two plus weeks of anchoring over wrecks rocks and artificial reefs and scouring the bottoms in different depths and locations we have finally gotten to the point where its time to rethink, regroup and break out the fluke jigs!The writing has been on the wall for several days now the Sea Bass just don't seem to be moving and we have finally gotten to the point where anything that has already been fished to any extent no longer will produce enough Sea Bass to feed a sick cat!We did have a few modest catches with Bass and some really fun trips with action and some nice keepers and throwbacks but it seemed that each day became a little more difficult to see any amount of fish we could keep and yesterday was the icing on the cake only one keeper Bass was landed after fishing three different wrecks so with decent conditions I decided to just go drifting for Fluke for the rest of the day.
