2004-04-12 - Spring bite has moved into high gear in the SE Bahamas
The spring bite has moved into high gear in the SE Bahamas. April is turning out to be a banner month for the fleet fishing out of Rum Cay, Cat Island, and San Salvador. There are good numbers of everything being caught right now. Nice sized wahoo are still around, in fact in good numbers the last few days. Boats out of Hawks Nest on Cat Island came back with 6-8 fish apiece, going from 60-80#'s. Over at Rum Cay, nice sized yellowfin tuna, up to 60#'s are being taken and pods of white marlin are showing up in the spread. The Over Under was 2-4 on white marlin, and 0-1 on Blue Marlin this past Sunday. Capt. Pete put a mix of nice sized tuna, wahoo, and dolphin in the boat on the troll and dropped for a couple 30# grouper on the NE Point at Rum Cay over this past weekend. Reports from over at San Salvador appear to be equally encouraging. Blue Marlin continue to be seen regularly off of Columbus Point at Cat Island and the weather has been spectacular for a change. In short, the bite is on, and it's a great time to go fishing.
