Over Under - Viewing Report 2005-12-22 - Florida Keys Fishing Report - Sailfish Bite Still Good I had the pleasure of running the Pretty Work today and managed to catch a few. the bite was pretty good, but not as red hot as it's been.
Up in Morehead City, we got out twice this week and boated a 78 fish that weighed about 270 . On the second day we fished this week, we failed to get a bite, although some other boats working near us did managed to hook up with some fish.
For the week, we released 6, but didn 't really fish for them all that much do due some good bottom fishing and snotty conditions on a couple of days. This coming week, will signal if the main body of fish has moved in or not, as we expect the majority of the fleet to fish, due to a combination of a good weather forecast and the recent catch reports that came in last last week.
Capt. John just called in and reported going 3-5 on sails today, having also seen a couple others that didn 't eat. The previous day, the Pretty Work caught 2 sails, and also put some meat in the coolers, catching 2 muttons, as well as a handfull of Kingfish and nice 2-3 pound Yellowtail, anchored up on the reef.
35 to 40 nice yellowtail, some going 3-5 pounds were put in the cooler, along with about 20 mangroves to 4 pounds, 4 Mutton Snapper to 8 pounds, and 7 Black Grouper going 8 to 25 pounds. The 3rd day was spent slow trolling live bait off of Aligator in 100-150 ' of water and saw a limit of Kings put in the boat, with 4 more released, and a bonus catch of a 30 pound black grouper that came up and ate a rigger bait!
Over Under - Viewing Report 2005-11-18 - Florida Keys Report - November 18, 2005 The Pretty Work reported the the sailfish are snappin pretty good, with boats catching 4-7 a day right now!Capt. John had the boat out for a half day of bottom fishing and loaded up on the snapper.
In closer to Morehead the offshore bite is pretty good with a nice mix of Kings, Wahoo, Yellowfin, and a few Dolphin coming to the dock. Over the next two weeks we expect the Bluefin to once again take up residence on the shoal, and provide plenty of action on 300-500 fish right through late January.
So at this time, we are not quite sure if we 've run our last canyon trip out of NJ before leaving for NC. The second appeared to be a real nice tuna fish that took us into the backing, before pulling the hook.
