2004-02-09 - 3 days fishing with the Jon Klein party
Captain Pete Fischer hooked up with Mate Billy Defay on Rum Cay and headed off to San Salvador for 3 days fishing with the Jon Klein party. The group fished the North end of San Salvador, all 3 days, targeting Wahoo exclusively . The fishing had been a bit slow over at Rum the previous two days, so the crew and guests were pleased as Day 1 produced 7 wahoo on 11 bites. Day 2 was much slower as the group managed 1 of 4 fish, while Day 3 produced 2 of 4 Wahoo. The fish ranged from 40 to 65 pounds, although another boat did boat a 100+# Hoo on the north point Wednesday. Lures of choice were once again, a Ray's Offshore Eagle and a Bimini Bullet. Birds were working the area pretty hard, so it seems as though the tuna have taken up early residence at the Hump. Likewise, as the crew ran the boat back to it's base at Hawks Nest Marina on Cat Island Saturday, they spotted nice sized yellow fin feeding on top at Columbus Point. Also, several boats came back to the dock at Hawks Nest with boxes full of dolphin to 20 pounds. With dolphin, tuna, wahoo, and billfish all being taken recently, it's a great time to be fishing in the SE Bahamas.
